Autonomous dock comparison

DJI Dock 4 vs DJI Dock 3.

Dock 4 is designed for rapid, repeated deployment through automated battery swaps. Dock 3 uses in-dock fast charging and supports the Matrice 4D Series. The right choice depends on mission cadence, payload, site, and budget.

Side-by-side comparison.

DJI Dock 4 and Dock 3 are not interchangeable mission systems. Battery logistics, aircraft sensors, turnaround targets, electrical load, and environmental limits should be compared together rather than choosing on a single headline number.

Comparison uses DJI controlled-test figures. Actual mission endurance and turnaround vary by payload, route, environment, firmware, battery condition, and configuration.

Choose by mission cadence.

Dock 4 earns its advantage when the operation needs rapid relaunch, extended availability during incidents, or repeated flights with minimal ground delay. Dock 3 remains a strong fit for planned inspection cycles where in-dock charging meets the operating schedule.

Choose Dock 4 when

Emergency response, security, public safety, or persistent monitoring requires the shortest practical turnaround between missions; Matrice 5TD sensor capabilities match the mission; and the site can support the higher electrical load plus O4 Ground Station deployment.

Choose Dock 3 when

Flights follow predictable intervals, the Matrice 4D or 4TD payload is preferred, existing infrastructure is designed around Dock 3, or charging-based turnaround is operationally acceptable.

Evaluate both when

A fleet is expanding across mixed sites. Standardize around mission requirements rather than assuming every location needs the same dock generation.

Frequently asked questions.

These are the most common procurement questions when comparing the two systems.

What is the biggest difference between DJI Dock 4 and Dock 3?

DJI Dock 4 automatically swaps aircraft batteries in 25 seconds, while DJI Dock 3 recharges the Matrice 4D Series battery inside the dock.

Can DJI Dock 4 use a Matrice 4D or Matrice 4TD?

No. DJI Dock 4 is designed for Matrice 5TD. DJI Dock 3 supports Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD.

Is DJI Dock 4 always the better choice?

Not necessarily. Dock 4 prioritizes rapid turnaround and continuous response. Dock 3 remains appropriate where one aircraft, charging-based cycles, or Matrice 4D/4TD payload capabilities fit the mission.

Can DJI Dock 4 replace a Dock 3 on the same base?

DJI states that Dock 4 and Dock 3 use the same 400 × 400 mm mounting-hole pattern. Power, network, O4 Ground Station, clearance, and site-survey requirements still need to be reviewed before replacement.
